Upload a final PDF for printing. In Canva, select PDF Print, check your design size and export settings, then reopen the downloaded PDF. A Canva share link or a screenshot is not the finished print file.
The pre-upload checklist
- Confirm the configuration. Size, orientation, stock, printed sides and any folds must match your order.
- Build at the correct dimensions. Use the selected product’s trim, bleed and safe-area specification. Keep all background artwork extending through the bleed.
- Check the actual content. Read phone numbers, prices, dates, names and website addresses. Test QR codes from a printed sample at its intended size.
- Export and reopen the PDF. Inspect every page, embedded fonts, images, page dimensions and front/back order. Remove template guides and instructions.
- Upload the final PDF. Review the configured product and acknowledge the final artwork before continuing.
Exporting from Canva
Finish the design at the intended product size. Use guides to keep important content clear of the trim edge, and extend background images into the bleed area. Choose Share → Download → PDF Print. Select only the pages needed for this order.
Canva’s “Crop marks and bleed” option adds those features to the downloaded PDF. Its bleed and crop-mark sizes are fixed, so enabling that option does not prove that the resulting file matches a particular product template. Use it when required by the selected product’s specification, then check the exported dimensions. If the print specification calls for a different bleed, the file needs adjustment before production.
Where your Canva plan provides a colour-profile option, choose the profile appropriate to the confirmed print workflow. If that choice is unavailable, do not convert the PDF using an unknown online converter just to change its label. Keep the original editable design and check the resulting PDF carefully.

What a PDF does—and does not—solve
A PDF can preserve page dimensions, vector text and embedded fonts. It can also contain a low-resolution image, missing content or the wrong page size. Merely renaming a PNG to “.pdf” does not convert it. Export from the original design application whenever possible.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Fonts | The exported words match the design; fonts are embedded or text is correctly outlined |
| Images | Sufficient pixel dimensions at the actual printed size |
| Pages | One finished surface per page where appropriate; front and back are in the intended order |
| Special finishes | Foil, spot gloss or cut paths follow the product’s separate technical instructions |
| Security | No password or restriction that prevents production processing |
For brochures, use unfolded outside and inside layouts. A booklet needs its own page-order and binding requirements; do not impose printer spreads unless requested.
What you approve
The final-artwork acknowledgement is a content decision. Review spelling, names, contact information, images, orientation and layout before accepting it. Changing the artwork or print configuration means the result should be checked again.
A technical file check is separate from proofreading. It cannot know whether a phone number is correct or whether you intended a different promotion. Check resolution and colour and check the trim and safe areas before uploading.
Specification references checked 5 October 2026. Options and production requirements can change; the selected product specification takes priority.
