Retractable banners: size, base & artwork

Compare retractable banner sizes and bases, plan legible display artwork and understand why the visible graphic is not a complete production template.

Choose a retractable banner by the display space, selected base and compatible material. A 33 × 81-inch graphic is one common option, but compact and wide formats use different configurations. Confirm the complete artwork layout before production.

Measure the display space first

Retractable banner graphic-size comparison
Graphic sizeMetric equivalentPlanning use

24 × 81 in609.6 × 2,057.4 mmA tall graphic with a narrower footprint

47 × 81 in1,193.8 × 2,057.4 mmMore width for a larger visual message

These dimensions describe the named graphic size, not the full assembled stand footprint. Allow room for the base, people passing and the viewing angle. Not every size is available with every base or material; the product configurator is the place to check compatible combinations.

A base is part of the product

The current range includes Standard, Standard Plus, Premium, Premium Plus and Elite bases. Compare their illustrated shape, selected size and available material on the product page. The total may change when you switch a base, and a dependent size or material may also need to change.

Choose based on how the display will be transported, handled and placed. Do not assume a higher-priced base makes the banner suitable outdoors or makes the graphic interchangeable with an old stand. Check replacement compatibility before designing a new panel.

Keep the message above the crowd

Build a clear hierarchy: one headline, one supporting message and a specific next step. Put the main message high enough to remain visible when a table or people stand in front of the banner. Test the layout at a reduced scale, then inspect images at their effective full-size resolution.

For these retractable banners, use at least 150 PPI at full size as a starting artwork target and check the selected specification. At 33 × 81 inches, a full raster graphic at 150 PPI would be 4,950 × 12,150 pixels before any extra production area. Vector logos and text can remain vector in the final PDF.

Do not put contact details into the area that may enter the cassette. The bleed calculator cannot infer that hidden area. Our template-library banner download is a visible-size planning canvas, clearly labelled as such.

Plan for indoor use and careful handling

Use this retractable display range indoors. Raise and lower the graphic from the centre without letting it snap into the base. Let the surface dry before packing, and use the carrying case for storage. For an exposed site, start with a product designed for that environment and confirm its mounting requirements.

Pair the display with a compact takeaway such as flyers or business cards. Keep the same headline and destination across the pieces so visitors can continue the conversation after leaving the display.
